Monday Musings

What kinds of books do you like to read? Why? Provide specific examples?

This is going to be in phases.

Grade school, I was pretty much into the world of Nancy Drew and Hardy Boys which lasted until I was in Freshman high school. I was an avid collector of these books and it was quite interesting to see when book cover art  changed whenever a different publisher came on board. I think I've always like the Minstrel Books or the Wanderer Books. Why I like the series so much? I was quite sickly growing up and the books propelled me to adventures that made me feeling healthy and forget I was confined to the bed. I felt the exhilaration running beside Nancy and she ducked for cover to prevent the bad guys from catching her or  concentrating on my balance on a precarious ledge with the Frank and Joe as they investigate a clue to stop the baddies from getting away.
Soon, Star Trek: The Next Generation characters swept me (thanks to the TV series) and the books sent me journeying to the stars and the galaxies which pretty much lasted until I was in my senior year in college. Trekkie? Yes, pretty much and I was a padawan of the Force too. I like this particular sci-fi books because I like the idea where humans have become fully actualized people as portrayed in (Star Trek) and are exploring the cosmos. While with Star Wars,  it was obvious, who wouldn't want to be a Jedi? *wink* Come on, don't tell me you haven't day dreamed about it. :D I haven't came across a StarWars and Star Trek: TNG cross-over in fanfiction. If anyone can recommend a good story, do leave a link to it. :D

Man of Action concluded Live tweeting....

It was Saturday here and Friday over there. lolz. A couple of my questions got through so it was good to experience a tweet cast. Funny, I felt lost since they were doing the live tweet casting during the airing of the  crossover so I was aware that there might be remarks more about the episode.  I knew later on (according to the tweets) Michael Emerson (Ben of Lost) voiced Alpha Nanite.

Musings Monday (2)

Will you be buying books for the holidays, this year? If so, for whom, and why?

Actually, I don't use only the holidays to buy books for friends. We actually give each other two author names and throughout the 12 months, when we  visit our favorite book thrift shop, we'd be on the lookout for each other's authors. If we find a book, we'd SMS each other. If it turns out the book title we don't have yet then, it's a book exchange. Why? We like to complete the collection since it's from our fave authors :D

What about you?

Ben 10 and Generator Rex Crossover

Visit the site to read clearly the blurb

My interest with this particular animation series is purely the characters drawing, writing, and the stories the writers put out. Okay, the whole thing.  :) I followed the show since Ben 10  was released with a hyper ten-year old Ben and finding the Omnitrix. Through the seasons the writers would reference previous episodes which was good since I thought it expanded the arcs especially Kevin Levin's mysterious and shady past. The latest is Ben 10: Ultimate Alien where Ben is now I think 17 years old here. Of course, the occasional familiar actors taking a voice guest spot is a boot too like Paradox voiced by David McCallum (NCIS fans will know him as Dr. Donald "Duckie" Mallard) Dwight Schultz as Doc Animo and Wil Wheaton (Stand By Me, Star Trek: The Next Generation and Leverage, Criminal Minds etc) as Darkstar. Maybe I should have been doing reviews of the show ages ago. I don't follow Generator Rex but I can see the similarities of the drawing style of the show. Of course, if it came from one prod co, the touch of the animator will crop up. :) I'm totally looking forward to the crossover.

Ahhhh, I have to think of questions for the chat.  Here we go again, *calculates world time.*

If you want to show your online support click the link under picture. Who did I vote? Toughie... why did the have to pit Peter (Fringe) vs Auggie (Covert Affairs)? :D I voted for Auggie. :D

Monday Musings (1)

This week's musing...

Other than for school, do you read books to learn how to do something? What was/were the topic(s)?

I  acquainted myself in the world of screenwrting before and managed to get a hang of it. I drafted several pages (and many more) before entering a writing contest hosted by Scriptapalooza.  I may not have reached the semis but the whole process was a good tingle that I haven't felt for quite a long time. I also began buying supplement books and "Writing Treatments that Sell" was one of them. I haven't pitched anything yet since I'm approaching it in baby steps. lolz. Then I had a major career change in my life that the drive to dapple on this project was shelved (not only figuratively). I hope to get back on this once all these other worries get sorted out.

Ben 10 Voiceover Contest :D

What's up with that Alien?

How come nothing like this exciting happened when I was growing up? Haha  I sent the link to my cousin I hope he tries out. I'm sure it will be fun going through the audition process.

Summary from Goodreads
In medieval Germany, Hildegard of Bingen was born with a gift—the ability to see beyond this earthly realm. But a gift can also be a burden, especially when Hildegard's vision helps her witness the vicious murder of a monk at the monastery of Disibodenberg.

When the peace of the monastery is shattered by a second gruesome murder, Hildegard seeks the help of Volmar, her trusted scribe. He discovers a treacherous plot to seize the Spear of Destiny—a holy relic rumored to bear a curse that haunts anyone who tries to wield its power for their own purposes.
Volmar and Hildegard are cast into a web of violence and intrigue spawned by the greed of power-hungry noblemen, deceitful clerics, and the ambitions of a secret society sworn to protect the warriors of the Crusades?
Book One of The Seer and the Scribe series begins where recorded history is silent, introducing you to the extraordinary lives of Hildegard and Volmar, as they challenge the darkness of this fearful time.

What's your favorite scary book?

Halloween is coming up and I've visited bibliophile friends' sites and check what's on their reading lists or scary-themed lists.

From those visits, I've tagged books here and there which later found themselves in my own TBR Thursdays lists and during my usual blog readings, I read this "What's my favorite scary book?" For the life of me, I can't recall at least one book but I know I've read ones at least. so with the help of Goodreads list of horror books, I found what I did read before. It's pretty short list since horror is not my genre that I like to check out.

I guess my all time favorite is:

I recall first reading this back in grade school, it was part of our assignment about reading one story a week then we were to write a book report every Monday. Lolz. I think it was also keep children sit still too in class. This was the story I got to read at home under a candle so it was memorable. It did wonders for my eyes (hence wearing contact lens now) haha. Anyway, I was kid, engrossed with the story and I remembered going  breathless and made sure my head was still attached to my body. Tsk. It was unnerving since I also ended up keeping  watch at the darkened tableau outside my window. If I had  lived in a place where wolves roam, it would complete the chilly mood. '☺

What's your favorite scary book?

Look Ma, I can siiiiinnnng! '♫♪

Who sang the loudest?

A fellow Grobie fan (Josh Groban fans call themselves for those not in the know) or is it Grobanite (sounds like something from Superman - lolz) shared this cute pic. It's one of those days when  little things just make you smile, right!

Twit pic courtesy of @alexandralawn thanks for sharing and I think Mr. Josh Groban chuckled at this too.

Tina's PicStory : Food.

I was following a link and I thought I might join in. This week's theme is about food. :)

I've been sporadically watching Food Network and I was astonished you can make salad dressings with ingredients like lemon juice, olive oil, vinegar, cilantro etc. Very easy things out from one's kitchen counter.'☺ No hassle. TBR Thursdays

To be Read Thursday meme is hosted by Drea which was inspired by Waiting on Wednesday by BreakingTheSpine.

TBR Thursday highlights all those book that are already out (whether you own them or not) that you're dying to ready but haven't had the chance yet. This can some old books, some new books, and some that are in between but they have to be books that you want/hope to read and review!

This will be my second time to read a romantic suspense (when I get copies of these) as the first one would be "The Angel" By Carla Neggers.

From Goodreads:
Book One

Leslie Parrish introduces Extrasensory Agents, a band of psychic investigators interested only in the cases nobody else wants-the coldest ones...

After being made a scapegoat in a botched investigation that led to a child's death, Aidan McConnell became a recluse. Still, as a favor to an old friend, Aidan will help on the occasional ESA case.

Reporter Lexie Nolan has a nose for news-and she believes a serial killer has been targeting teen girls around Savannah, but no one believes her. So she turns to the new paranormal detective agency and the sexy, mysterious Aidan for help. But just as the two begin forging a relationship, the case turns eerily personal for Lexie-and Aidan discovers that maybe he hasn't lost the ability to feel after all.
